And to Thamood We sent their brother Salih. He said: 'Worship Allah, my nation, for you have no god except He. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord. Here is the shecamel of Allah, a sign for you. Leave her to graze in the earth of Allah and do not touch her with evil, lest a painful punishment seizes you. 73 "And remember how He made you inheritors after the 'Ad people and gave you habitations in the land: ye build for yourselves palaces and castles in (open) plains, and carve out homes in the mountains; so bring to remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah, and refrain from evil and mischief on the earth." 74 The chieftains of his people, who were scornful, said unto those whom they despised, unto such of them as believed: Know ye that Salih is one sent from his Lord? They said: Lo! In that wherewith he hath been sent we are believers. 75 Those who were scornful said: Lo! in that which ye believe we are disbelievers. 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord and said, “O Saleh! Bring upon us what you promise us, if you are a Noble Messenger.” 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 Saleh therefore turned away from them and said, “O my people! Indeed I did deliver my Lord’s message to you and wished you good, but you do not want well-wishers.” (The people in the graves can hear the speech of those who are on earth.) 79 We sent Lot, who said to his people, "How can you commit an abomination such as no one in the world has ever done before you? 80 You lust after men rather than women! You transgress all bounds!" 81 The only answer given by his people was, "Turn them out of your town. They are people who regard themselves to be pure." 82 So We saved him and his family -- except for his wife. She was one of those who stayed behind. 83 And We rained a rain upon them. See now the nature of the consequence of evil-doers! 84
