HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 the people of Pharaoh, who refuse to be conscious of Me!" 11 He said: O my Lord! surely I fear that they will reject me; 12 and "my breast is straitened and my tongue is not fluent; so send Aaron as well; 13 They also have a sin against me, and I fear they will slay me.' 14 Said He, 'No indeed; but go, both of you, with Our signs, and We assuredly shall be with you, listening. 15 They came to the Pharaoh and said, "We are the Messengers of the Lord of the Universe. 16 Then send with us the children of Israel. 17 Fir'awn said: brought we not thee up amongst us as a child? And thou tarriedst amongst us for many years of thy life? 18 And yet thou didst commit that [heinous] deed of thine, and [hast thus shown that] thou art one of the ingrate!" 19 Said he, 'Indeed I did it then, being one of those that stray; 20 So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers. 21 Now this is the favour that you tauntingly remind me of: that you enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Said Pharaoh: "And what [and who] is that 'Sustainer of all the worlds'?" 23 (Moses) said: "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you can believe." 24 Pharaoh said to those around him, "Did you hear?" 25 He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers. 26 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!" 27 Moses said, "He is the Lord of the East and the West, and all that lies between them, if only you could understand." 28 Said Firaun, “If you ascribe any one else as a God other than me, I will surely imprison you.” 29 (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?" 30 Said he: Bring it then, if you are of the truthful ones. 31 (No sooner had he said this than) Moses threw down his rod and behold, it was a veritable serpent, 32 And he drew forth his hand, thereupon it shone bright before the beholders. 33
