He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
