The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
