The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
