The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
