The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
