The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
