The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is covered, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 And when souls are united, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 [on that Day] every human being will come to know what he has prepared [for himself]. 14 No! I swear by the slinkers, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 by the night swarming, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
