The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
