Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
