The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You will become three categories: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
