He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
