The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
