The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
