The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
