The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
