He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
