Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
