Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
