Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 This (Qur’an) is sent down from the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 2 a divine writ, the messages whereof have been clearly spelled out as a discourse in the Arabic tongue for people of [innate] knowledge, 3 It contains glad news and warnings (for the people), but most of them have ignored it and do not listen. 4 And they say, “Our hearts are covered against the affair you call us to, and there is deafness in our ears, and there is a barrier between us and you – therefore mind your own business, we are minding ours.” 5 Say: 'I am only a mortal, like you are. To me it has been revealed that your God is One God; so go straight with Him, and ask for His forgiveness; and woe to the idolaters 6 [and] those who do not spend in charity: for it is they, they who [thus] deny the truth of the life to come! 7 But those who believe and do the right, will have a continuing reward. 8
