The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
