The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
