He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
