The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);- 1 And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He is created from a drop emitted- 6 issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 God has certainly power to bring him back (from the dead). 8 On the day when all secrets will be made public, 9 he shall have no power, and no helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 And by oath of the earth which flourishes with it. 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 it is no merriment. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
