Then the people of Lot rejected the messengers. 160 Their brother Lot asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 161 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 162 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage is only with the Lord of the Worlds. 164 “What! Among all the creatures, you commit the immoral acts with men?” 165 And leave ye your spouses your Lord hath created for you? Aye! ye are a people trespassing. 166 They said, "If you do not desist, Lot, you will surely be banished." 167 (Lot) said: "I am disgusted with your actions," 168 Lord, save me and my family from their deeds." 169 So We saved him and his family, all, 170 Except an old woman who lingered behind. 171 Then We utterly destroyed the others. 172 and We poured a rain [of destruction] down upon them -- and how evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned. 173 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 174 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 175

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
