The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
