When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 The people of the city came to him rejoicing. 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers. 78 On them, too, We took vengeance, and they are both on a clear roadway. 79
