Whatever misfortune happens to you, is because on the things your hands have wrought, and for many (of them) He grants forgiveness. 30 You are not able to frustrate Him in the earth; and, apart from God, you have neither protector nor helper. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. 32 Had He wanted, He could have stopped the wind and let the ships remain motionless on the surface of the sea, in this there is evidence (of the Truth) for all those who are patient and grateful, 33 or He could have destroyed them as punishment for the human being's deeds. However, God pardons many sins. 34 Those who dispute Our verses may know that they have no asylum. 35 Now whatever ye have been given is but a passing comfort for the life of the world, and that which Allah hath is better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord, 36 And those who avoid the major sins and indecencies and, when angered, forgive; 37 And those who respond to their Lord and keep up prayer, and their rule is to take counsel among themselves, and who spend out of what We have given them. 38 who, when they are attacked, defend themselves. 39 The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof, but whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah. Verily, He likes not the Zalimun (oppressors, polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.). 40 Those who successfully defend themselves after being wronged will not be questioned. 41 The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. 42 Surely, he who bears patiently and forgives indeed that is true constancy. 43
