He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
