He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
