Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
