The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
