The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news - 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
