He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
