A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeemSaad. 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember. 3 How many cities have We destroyed! Our wrath struck their people at night or during their midday siesta. 4 And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out: "We have indeed been sinners." 5 Thus, [on Judgment Day] We shall most certainly call to account all those unto whom a [divine] message was sent, and We shall most certainly call to account the message-bearers [themselves]; 6 with full knowledge, We shall tell them what they did, for We have never been away from them. 7 The balance that day will be true (to nicety): those whose scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper: 8 And whosesoever balances will be light - those are they who have lost themselves in respect of Our signs. 9 We settled you on the earth, and provided means of livelihood for you in it; but little are the thanks you give. 10
