The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 Within gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
