[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear God? 177 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 178 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 179 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 180 ۞ Give a full measure and be not of those who diminish; 181 "And weigh with scales true and upright. 182 And defraud not people of their things, and commit not corruption on the earth. 183 Fear Him who created you and those who have gone before you." 184 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 185 Thou art but a mortal like us, and lo! we deem thee of the liars. 186 But in case you are speaking the truth, then make a segment of the sky to fall upon us." 187 He said: "My Lord is the Best Knower of what you do." 188 Then they belied him; wherefore there laid hold of them the torment of day of shadow. Verily it was the torment of a Mighty Day. 189 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 190 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
