The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great news - 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
