Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 and couches raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 So do they not see the camel how it has been created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
