A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat. 33 And We have placed therein gardens of the date-palm and grapes, and We have caused springs of water to gush forth therein, 34 that they might eat of its fruits. It was not their hands that made them. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Holy is He who created all things in pairs; of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and other things which they do not know. 36 And a sign unto them is the night. We draw off the day therefrom, and lo! they are darkened. 37 The sun is running its course to its appointed place. That is the ordaining of the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing. 38 And the moon, We have measured for it mansions (to traverse) till it returns like the old dried curved date stalk. 39 It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor doth the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit. 40 And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship, 41 We have created for them the like of it in which they ride. 42 And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved 43 Unless by mercy from Us, and as a comfort for a while. 44 When it is said to such people: “Guard yourselves against what is ahead of you and what has preceded you that mercy be shown to you” (they pay scant heed to it). 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 And when it is said to them: Spend out of what Allah has given you, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error. 47 They say, "When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing. 49 Then they will not be able to make a will or return to their families. 50
