Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
