The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
