'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
