And when thou settedst forth at daybreak from thy housefolk to assign to the believers their positions for the battle, Allah was Hearer, Knower. 121 Remember two of your parties Meditated cowardice; but Allah was their protector, and in Allah should the faithful (Ever) put their trust. 122 And assuredly Allah had succoured you at Badr while ye were humble. Wherefore fear Allah that haply ye may return thanks. 123 When you said to the believers: 'Is it not enough for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down upon you? 124 Nay, but if you are patient in adversity and conscious of Him, and the enemy should fall upon you of a sudden, your Sustainer will aid you with five thousand angels swooping down!" 125 Allah ordained this only as a message of good cheer for you, and that thereby your hearts might be at rest - Victory cometh only from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise - 126 And that He might cut off a part of those who disbelieve or suppress them, so that they will turn back, disappointed. 127 (O Messenger!) It is not for you to decide whether He will accept their repentance or chastise them, for they surely are wrongdoers. 128 To God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. He may forgive or punish whomever He wants. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. 129
