AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 We have come to thee with the truth, and assuredly we speak truly. 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them – and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the town came rejoicing. 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
