In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
