Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 He (Moses) said to Aaron: 'When you saw them in error, what prevented you, 92 That thou followedst me not? Hast thou then disobeyed my order? 93 (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'" 94 Moses asked, "Samiri, what were your motives?" 95 'I beheld what they beheld not,' he said, 'and I seized a handful of dust from the messenger's track, and cast it into the thing. So my soul prompted me.' 96 Said [Moses]; "Begone, then! And behold, it shall be thy lot to say throughout [thy] life, 'Touch me not! But, verily, [in the life to come] thou shalt be faced with a destiny from which there will be no escape! And [now] look at this deity of thine to whose worship thou hast become so devoted: we shall most certainly burn it, and then scatter [whatever remains of] it far and wide over the sea! 97 Your only deity is God, there is no deity but Him. His knowledge encompasses all things." 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 Whoever turns aside from it, he shall surely bear a burden on the day of resurrection 100 Abiding in this (state), and evil will it be for them to bear on the day of resurrection; 101 The Day whereon the trumpet will be blown into, and We shall gather the culprits on that Day blear-eyed, 102 They will slowly talk to each other and say, "Our life on earth was as short as ten days". 103 We know well what they will say to one another: We also know that even the most cautious in his estimate will say: "You lived in the world no more than a day." 104
