The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 none can avert that. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
