The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
